  I am a student of 3D environment design and VFX. Creating massive, true-to-scale environments and replicating photo-realistic areas of the world is not only time consuming but also machine heavy in practise.
Being able to rapidly grab DEM data for heightmap and displacement cuts my background creation in half so I can spend the time on foreground terrain modelling and assets.
I realize this tool has many more academic uses but for my industry, tight deadlines and need for real world environments to scale, it is a godsend.
