The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) downloaded this lidar data from the USGS site: ftp://rockyftp.cr.usgs.gov/vdelivery/Datasets/Staged/Elevation/LPC/Projects/AK_Fairbanks-NSBorough_2010/ and processed the data to be available on the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV). NOAA Office for Coastal Management processed all classifications of points to the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV). Classes available on the DAV are: 1 - Unclassified, 2 - Ground, 12 - Overlap (Unclassified). This lidar data set is for the Fairbanks North Star Borough Area and the USACE Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CREEL) Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility in Fox, Alaska. The following are the collection parameters and equipment used to create these data sets: Aircraft: Cessna 320 (43Q) lidar System: Optech ALTM Gemini (03SEN145) Approximate Collection Altitude (Above Mean Terrain): 1400 meters Ground Speed: 150 kts lidar Pulse Rate Frequency: 70 kHz Mirror Scan Frequency: 48 Hz Scan Angle (+/-): 12 degrees Accuracy statements are based on areas of moderate terrain, with points classified as ground. Diminished accuracies are to be expected in areas of extreme terrain and dense vegetation. The accuracy of each point is expected to meet the vertical accuracy standard, derived products may be less accurate in areas of extreme terrain and dense vegetation due to a lesser number of points defining the ground in these areas. Classified data sets such as this one may have varying posting due to some pulses not reaching the ground. This data set is an LAZ (compressed LAS) format file containing LIDAR point cloud data.
